Compare Slider

Installation
php artisan ui:add compare-slider
Note
This component ships an Alpine behavior module at
resources/js/ui/compare-slider.js. Import it once from your bundle so it registers on alpine:init:
import './compare-slider.js';
Registry contract
php artisan ui:add compare-slider
writes only the files below. The CLI validates each file hash before writing and asks before it replaces a local change, unless you pass --force.

# Brok UI: Compare Slider (`compare-slider`)
Before/after image (or arbitrary content) comparison with a keyboard-accessible, RTL-aware draggable divider.
Brok UI is a Laravel Blade component registry. Installed components are plain Blade files the app owns.
## Install
```bash
php artisan ui:add compare-slider
```
## Usage
```blade
{{-- Two layers at full size, the first clipped to the divider, so they stay
aligned while you drag. Any content works; here two gradients stand in
for photographs so the preview needs no network. --}}
<x-ui.compare-slider before-label="Before" after-label="After" class="aspect-video w-full max-w-xl border border-border">
<x-slot:before>
<div class="flex size-full items-center justify-center bg-gradient-to-br from-muted to-secondary">
<span class="text-5xl font-semibold tracking-tight text-muted-foreground">Draft</span>
</div>
</x-slot:before>
<x-slot:after>
<div class="flex size-full items-center justify-center bg-gradient-to-br from-primary/80 to-primary">
<span class="text-5xl font-semibold tracking-tight text-primary-foreground">Final</span>
</div>
</x-slot:after>
</x-ui.compare-slider>
```
## Props
- `before` (mixed|null, default `null`) — Before-state content, typically an image URL or slot content.
- `after` (mixed|null, default `null`) — After-state content, typically an image URL or slot content.
- `value` (int, default `50`) — Initial divider position as a percent (0-100).
- `orientation` (string, default `horizontal`) — Divider axis: horizontal (drags left/right) or vertical (drags up/down).
- `name` (mixed|null, default `null`) — When set, mirrors the divider position into a hidden input for form submission.
- `beforeLabel` (mixed|null, default `null`) — Caption shown over the before side.
- `afterLabel` (mixed|null, default `null`) — Caption shown over the after side.
## Use when
- Use when continuous adjustment or immediate visual feedback helps users choose a value.
- Showing a before/after comparison, such as an image edit, redesign, or restoration, with a draggable reveal divider.
- Comparing two arbitrary pieces of content side by side with a slider, not just two images.
## Avoid when
- Do not use for precise values or broad ranges without good landmarks; direct entry is better when accuracy matters.
- The two states should be visible at once, side by side, rather than revealed by dragging; use a plain two-column layout.
- Comparing more than two states; a slider only supports a single before/after split.
## Anti-patterns
- Using sliders for precise or unbounded values
## Rules
- Use the `<brok:compare-slider>` tag (or `<x-ui.compare-slider>`) in Blade; do not rewrite the component.
- Prefer the documented props and variants over utility-class overrides; when a utility must win, use the `!` important modifier.
- Use semantic design tokens (`bg-primary`, `text-muted-foreground`), never raw colour utilities.
- Keep the `data-slot` attributes; they are the styling and test hooks.

Slots
default—
Data slots
Stable hooks for CSS overrides and browser tests.
Behavior
- Dragging the handle moves the divider and reveals more of the after content on one side and the before content on the other.
- The handle also responds to arrow keys, stepping the divider position, with RTL-aware direction for horizontal orientation.
- Installs a JavaScript behavior module when the registry item includes resources/js/ui files.
- Declares registry capability flags: a11y, interactive, responsive, rtl, darkMode.
Guidance
Adjust an intuitive continuous value.
Use when
- Use when continuous adjustment or immediate visual feedback helps users choose a value.
- Showing a before/after comparison, such as an image edit, redesign, or restoration, with a draggable reveal divider.
- Comparing two arbitrary pieces of content side by side with a slider, not just two images.
Avoid when
- Do not use for precise values or broad ranges without good landmarks; direct entry is better when accuracy matters.
- The two states should be visible at once, side by side, rather than revealed by dragging; use a plain two-column layout.
- Comparing more than two states; a slider only supports a single before/after split.
Use instead
- Number field for precise entry
- Select for discrete values
Anti-patterns
- Using sliders for precise or unbounded values
- Anatomy
- Theming hooks
Accessibility
- Keyboard
- ArrowUp ArrowDown ArrowLeft ArrowRight Home End PageUp PageDown
- Focus
managed
- The handle is a real, keyboard-focusable control that responds to arrow keys as a slider, so the comparison is operable without a pointer.
- Before and after labels are exposed as visible captions rather than color alone distinguishing the two sides.
- Semantic HTML and a stable
data-slotattribute for styling and scripting hooks. - Focus-visible rings use the
ringtoken, so keyboard focus is always visible. - Disabled and invalid states are conveyed to assistive tech, not by color alone.
- Targets WCAG 2.2 AA; verify contrast in light, dark, admin and customer surfaces in the preview.
- Labels go through
__()and layout uses logical properties (ms-*,text-start), so it mirrors underdir="rtl"— flip the preview to RTL to confirm. - Dark mode uses the same semantic tokens under the
darkclass; high contrast follows forced-color system tokens.

Compare Slider — before/after image (or arbitrary content) comparison with a
draggable divider. Both layers fill the container at full size; the "before"
layer is clipped with `clip-path` to `value`%, so the two images stay
pixel-aligned while the divider moves (shrinking the layer's width would
re-crop the picture instead).
Slots `before` / `after` take priority over the `$before` / `$after` image
URL props so callers can compare any content, not just images.
Keyboard: ArrowLeft/Right (horizontal) or Up/Down (vertical) ±1; PageUp/Down
±10; Home/End to snap ends. RTL-aware in horizontal mode.
